Joyces Garden

is a coloring book for older adults and dementia patients.

Throughout the years Joyce McConnell took great delight in the colors and textures found in nature. While she pursued her artistic interests continuously, her focus on painting resumed after she retired from a 40-year career in healthcare when she set up her studio: Thousand Oaks Art in Brewster, MA.

Part of Joyce’s artistic repertoire included watercolors. In addition to landscapes, she created traditional botanical paintings which required extensive sketching, planning, and the careful layering of pigments. This coloring book offers some of her sketches specifically selected as they offer larger spaces which are easier to fill in with crayons or pencils. The layout includes a page of her sketch as I found it. Positioned on the opposite page is a portion of the sketch which may be easier for some people to navigate.

With Joyce’s sketches we hope that adults and seniors can share the joy of applying color to paper.

Compiled with love.
